I don’t mind people protesting for things they believe in, really I don’t. What bugs me is when I can’t figure out what the hell they’re protesting about. The signs clearly stated that they were standing up for Unborn Women’s Rights. That seemed highly unfair to me. What about Unborn Men? What does protesting Kathleen Turner’s political talk have to do with abortion in the first place? The talk didn’t really even touch that issue. She talked about her acting career and where politics were headed.
My problem with the abortion issue is this: It was already decided in the 70’s to help save women from disgusting clinics in the back alleys of the slums. The abortion rate already is down due to increased sex education, increased availability for birth control, and an overwhelming amount of support available. I used Planned Parenthood openly for cheaper birth control, STD testing, and OB/GYN purposes. I personally would never have an abortion. However, I don’t feel that it’s my place to decide for a scared teenager, rape/incest victim, or endangered mother. I also don’t think it’s right to take away their options again forcing them to either go through the emotional trauma (which is also inflicted on the child once born) or to have to go find an unsanitary back alley clinic and put their lives at risk. The government has no place in forcing that decision upon them. If you don’t want an abortion, then don’t have one.
